The filmfestival Caillou presents films about and as strategies of territorial resistance. In this second edition, we look beyond the strategies that attract the most attention due to their media appeal and dominant, often colonial or masculinist, ideas of what counts as a political act. Which everyday, subtle, perhaps even unintentional forms of resistance often fall outside the frame as a result? And how can these less “event-based” actions become part of our (cinematographic) repertoire of resistance?

 

At Caillou Filmfest this year, we watch films in which space is claimed by the hairdressers of Matongé, carnival celebrants in Brussels and London, street dogs in Istanbul, and karaoke singers at La Perle. In what ways can film itself become a means of re-appropriating space? From 26–29 March, we celebrate Brussels’ territorial struggles with films, conversations, listening sessions, concerts, shared meals, and workshops.
